A Note on the Recent DMCA Notice Regarding IQ.Pilot
We want to provide a brief update regarding the DMCA notice that resulted in GitHub disabling the public IQ.Pilot repository.
IQ.Pilot is built on comma.ai's openpilot, which is distributed under the MIT License. The project also incorporates third-party components under their respective licenses and includes substantial IQ.Pilot-specific development.
We take intellectual-property and open-source licensing obligations seriously. After reviewing the notice, we submitted a formal response through GitHub's established DMCA process. We dispute the notice's characterization of the repository and have provided GitHub with the factual and technical basis for our position.
We stand behind the work our team has done and the response we submitted. Our position is supported by the repository's source, project history, upstream licensing, and the public records relevant to the components at issue. We are prepared to address the dispute through the proper process and to correct the record where the notice does not accurately describe IQ.Pilot.
A DMCA takedown is part of a statutory notice process. It is not a judicial determination of the underlying copyright dispute. We will continue addressing the matter through the appropriate process and will provide verified updates when there is a material development.
The temporary unavailability of the GitHub repository does not change our commitment to IQ.Pilot or the community around it. Development and planning continue, and our focus remains on building a reliable project and handling this dispute responsibly.
While that process is ongoing, we will not speculate about anyone's motives or debate the dispute through public comments. We ask our community to keep discussion factual and respectful and not to contact or harass anyone involved.
We appreciate the community's patience and support. Our focus remains on resolving the matter responsibly and continuing to build IQ.Pilot.
